Department of English adding creative writing minor
Students with an interest in poetry, fiction and nonfiction writing will be able to pursue a new minor in creative writing this fall.
Open to students in all disciplines, the creative writing minor consists of three required courses: ENG250 Introduction to Creative Writing, ENG251 Creative Writing Poetry or ENG252 Fiction, and ENG451 Advanced Creative Writing Workshop. Minors will also complete three electives in writing and literature.
The introductory course, which appears in the fall 2013 schedule, is being offered for the first time and is open to all who are interested.
“The creative writing minor is designed for students in all academic concentrations who want to perfect their craft by working closely with professional writers,” said Dr. D. Matthew Ramsey, chairman of the Department of English.
According to Ramsey, students in the minor will develop their own writing through creative exercises and workshop critique. Small classes, a dedicated faculty of professional writers, and a lively program of extracurricular readings promise to provide a supportive and challenging writing community.
