Prom dress drive benefiting girls in foster care
Do you have a prom dress that is collecting dust and taking up space in your closet at home? Or do you have a special dress that you could part with to help make a girl feel beautiful on her prom night?
Administration of justice major Kirsten LeGrow ’13 has organized a prom dress drive through her internship with Child & Family and is asking members of the Salve Regina community to donate gently used special occasion dresses.
Child & Family is the most comprehensive social service agency in Newport County and one of the largest in Rhode Island. The prom dress drive will benefit its Groovy Girls program, which seeks to empower and support girls in foster care.
“We organized this drive because prom is such a crucial moment in a young woman’s life and not everyone can afford to buy a dress,” LeGrow said. “For me personally, I only wore the dresses I donated once, and then they just sat in my closet. I hope that my dress can help another girl have a magical prom like I did.”
Students are encouraged to bring in their dresses after spring break. To donate, e-mail kirsten.legrow@salve.edu or watch for the donation table in the O’Hare Academic Center lobby.
