Scholarships for Service program accepting applications
The Office of Community Service is now accepting Scholarships for Service applications for the 2013-2014 academic year. Sponsored by AmeriCorps, the program provides education awards in exchange for a minimum of 300 hours of service throughout the year.
Scholarships for Service involves institutions of higher education throughout the state. Member campuses in Rhode Island have a deep commitment to the value of service in education and to fulfilling their public trust by graduating people who are active participants in civic life.
Students who are accepted into the program must complete 300 hours of service between Sept. 19 and June 15, 2014, with 150 of those hours served at a pre-approved primary site. Students must also participate in mandatory trainings and at least two other service or training events throughout the year.
Upon successful completion of at least 300 hours, students will receive an award of $1,175 from AmeriCorps and an award of $1,000 from Salve Regina.
Applications are due Monday, Sept. 16. For more information, contact Kelly Powers, director of community services, at kellyj.powers@salve.edu.
