University sponsoring blood drive, seasonal flu clinics
Members of the Salve Regina community are encouraged to help others by donating blood – and help themselves by getting vaccinated before flu season peaks. A three-day blood drive, along with two seasonal flu clinics, will be held on campus in the coming weeks.
For more information on the blood drive or the seasonal flu clinics, call Health Services at (401) 341-2904.
Blood drive
Sponsored by Health Services and the Student Nurse Organization, the blood drive will benefit the Rhode Island Blood Center. The drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 through Thursday, Sept. 26 in the Rodgers Recreation Center, Rooms 030-031.
All donors will be entered to win a pair of New England Patriots tickets for the Nov. 3 game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium.
Blood has a shelf life. Platelets, most often needed by cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, only have a shelf life of 5 days. When you donate whole blood, you are donating platelets and making a significant difference in patients’ lives.
To make an appointment, visit www.ribc.org and use the sponsor code 0199. Donors should bring their drivers license or another form of identification.
Seasonal flu clinics
Sponsored by Health Services and the Wellness Company, the seasonal flu clinics are open to the University community as well as the general public. Clinics will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 (in the Ochre Court state dining room) and Monday, Oct. 7 (in the Rodgers Recreation Center, Rooms 030-031).
There is no charge for those with the following insurance: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare Part B, United Healthcare, Neighborhood Health, Tufts or the student consolidated health plan. For those with a difference insurance provider and the uninsured, the cost is $25.
To register, visit www.thewellcomp.com. Under “Register Now,” choose “Flu – College/University” and use the login name “c-salve.” Individuals must be 18 or older and must bring their insurance card to the clinic.
