Amy Cady has been appointed director of the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life, effective July 3. She succeeds MaryAnne Davey, who will leave Salve Regina at the end of June to pursue her own work in spiritual direction and retreat ministry.

“Amy has a heart for ministry and a vision for the future of the Mercy Center at Salve, opening its windows and doors to welcome all and extend God’s love and mercy to students of all beliefs,” said Dr. Theresa Ladrigan-Whelpley, vice president for mission integration. “I am excited about the many ways Amy will lead the Mercy Center into the next chapter of Salve, bringing the transformational work of a mercy education to life.”

Cady has 16 years of experience in higher education ministry, including nine at the Mercy Center, where she has served as assistant director since 2018. Prior to joining the Salve Regina community, she was chaplain at Saint Thomas More Parish in New Hampshire, focused on ministry with students at the University of New Hampshire. She also taught middle school history and religion at St. John’s School in Connecticut.

“Amy is a wonderful mercy leader,” said President Kelli J. Armstrong. “Through her thoughtful and kind manner, she models for our community how to make a positive impact on others in both everyday acts and wider initiatives. We are truly fortunate that she will be leading our cherished Mercy Center.”

Through the work of the Mercy Center, Cady hopes to help the Salve Regina community live its mission and to be, as Catherine McAuley said, “shining lamps, giving light to all around us.” For the student community, Cady wants the Mercy Center to be a safe place where they can explore, question and challenge themselves to grow holistically and from which they can begin to engage the world.

Cady holds a B.A. in history from St. Anselm College and an M.A. in theology from Boston College. She has two children and enjoys hiking at Norman Bird Sanctuary, catching the latest Marvel movie and co-leading her daughter’s Girl Scout troop.
