With his notational ink drawings and atmospheric-fired ceramics, artist Nick Sevigney fuses his love of clay and machines. His work will be on display in a solo exhibition at the Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery through Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Sevigney constructs an invented world of surreal forms and animated textures drawn from deep-sea life, insects, flowers, science fiction and Yixing tea ware. His treatment of intimate scale, extraordinary detail and distressed surface connects us to the past and the future, the familiar and strange.

An associate professor of ceramics and program coordinator at Plymouth State University, Sevigney holds a BFA from the University of Hartford Art School and an MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and is in the permanent collection of the Arizona State University Art Museum, The Studio Potter Collection and the Fidelity Investment Corporation.

The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, contact gallery director Ernest Jolicoeur at (401) 341-2254 or ernest.jolicoeur@salve.edu.
