Community service opportunities: April

Ready to log some service hours? The Office of Community Service has several opportunities available during the month of April.

To register for one of the service opportunities listed below, or to view all service opportunities, visit the Community Service website. For more information on service opportunities in general, contact the Office of Community Service at (401) 341-2440 or community.services@salve.edu.

Tuesday, April 2: Soup kitchen
Volunteers are needed from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to set up, work and clean up the Emmanuel Church soup kitchen. This site is located on the trolley line.

Saturday, April 6: Beach cleanup
Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to help Clean Ocean Access with a beach cleanup at Bailey’s Brook. Transportation is not provided.

Saturday, April 6: Baby Steps program
Volunteers are needed from 9-11:30 a.m. to help with East Bay Community Action Program’s Baby Steps program. Volunteers interact with young children and their families during a parent education program and help with setup and cleanup of meals and activities. Van transportation is provided.

Friday, April 12: Newport Rhode Race 
Volunteers are needed from noon to 7 p.m. with to help with registration for the Newport Rhode Race at the Elks Club in Newport. Volunteers can work in shifts from noon to 3 p.m. and/or 3-7 p.m. This site is located on the trolley line.

Saturday, April 13: Newport Rhode Race
Volunteers are needed from 5 a.m. to noon to help with the Newport Rhode Race at Easton’s (First) Beach. Volunteers can work in shifts from 5-8 a.m. and/or 8 a.m. to noon. Transportation is not provided.

Saturday, April 13: Spring Cleaning 
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon to help with Emmanuel Church’s spring cleaning. This site is located on the trolley line.

Thursday, April 25: Baby Steps program
Volunteers are needed from 5-7 p.m. to help with East Bay Community Action Program’s Baby Steps program. Volunteers interact with young children and their families during a parent education program and help with setup and cleanup of meals and activities. Van transportation is provided.

Saturday, April 27: Rebuilding Together
Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help with gardening, cleaning and/or other assorted home tasks as part of the Rebuilding Together Greater Newport program. Van transportation is provided.

Saturday, April 27: Sidewalk parade 
Volunteers are needed from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help with children’s crafts, games and greeting families during the Florence Gray Center’s annual sidewalk parade. Van transportation is provided.
