Community service opportunities: February

The Office of Community Service has several service opportunities available during the month of February. To register for one of the service opportunities listed below, or to view all service opportunities, visit the Community Service website.

Friday, Feb. 9: My Brother’s Keeper
Volunteers are needed to help out with this ministry that delivers furniture and food to local families in need. Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 8:30 a.m., return at 1:30 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 12: Share the Love Project
Volunteers are needed in Wakehurst, Room 201 to help out with the Share the Love project. Transportation is not provided for this on-campus service opportunity.

Wednesday, Feb. 14: Park Holm Senior Center
Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to make tissue paper flowers for Park Holm Senior Center. Transportation is not provided for this on-campus service opportunity.

Thursday, Feb. 15: Housing Hotline
Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to help make scarves for housing hotline. Transportation is not provided for this on-campus service opportunity.

Monday, Feb. 19 and Friday, Feb. 23: Breakers Stable
Volunteers are needed to read stories and make arts and crafts with young visitors. Sessions will last 75 minutes and volunteers will work with an educational interpretive program specialist. The Preservation Society of Newport County will perform a background check. Sessions are 9:15-11 a.m. and 1:15-3 p.m. Transportation is not provided, as this service location is within walking distance from campus.

Friday, Feb. 23: Emmanuel Church
Volunteers are needed from 9-11 a.m. to help set up the church their cultural heritage program, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help with dances, crafts and greeting during the program and from 2-4 p.m. to clean up from the program. This service site is located on the trolley line.

Saturday, Feb. 24: Clean Ocean Access
Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. at Second Beach (surfer’s end) to help with a beach cleanup. Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 11:45 a.m., return at 2 p.m.

      Meet with a member of Admissions Office to hear about Salve Regina's mission, campus life and academics directly from an admissions counselor in a group setting. It's a great introduction to Salve Regina and all the opportunities that exist for you here. 

      A virtual information session is designed for those who are in the college search and application process. If you would like to learn more about Salve Regina University and have your questions answered in a live chat, this is the best place to start. Our sessions last approximately one hour.

      You will also be able to view our virtual tour as part of your registration for this presentation.

    • Reunion Weekend
      Friday, June 3 to Sunday, June 5

      Reunion Weekend will be packed with exciting events both on and off campus. It's been too long since we've been able to welcome you to campus for a reunion celebration, so these events are sure to be worth the trip back to Newport. Return to campus and reconnect with your classmates - all alumni are welcome to attend.

      Hear from University leaders the state of student life and where Salve Regina is headed. Whether you’ve recently graduated or you’re returning after a hiatus, campus has updates!
      This event will be live on campus and live-streamed for those unable to attend in person. Please register to receive the Zoom link for the live stream.

      About his new novel OCEAN STATE
      Newport MFA guest writer Stewart O’Nan will discuss his new novel “Ocean State” with Ann Hood, founding director of the program. The conversation is free and open to the Salve Regina community and the general public.
