Community service opportunities: October

The Office of Community Service has several service opportunities available during the month of October. To register for one of the service opportunities listed below, or to view all service opportunities, visit the Community Service website.

Tuesday, Oct. 2: Emmanuel Church soup kitchen
Volunteers are needed from 4-7 p.m. at Emmanuel Church in Newport to set up, work and clean up the soup kitchen. This site is located on the trolley line.

Tuesday, Oct. 2: St. Paul’s Church
Volunteers are needed from 6-8 p.m. in the Mercy Center to help bake sweet treats for St. Paul’s Church’s Warm up Wednesday program. Transportation is not provided for this on-campus event.

Friday, Oct. 5: Trinity Church pumpkin patch
Volunteers are needed from 5-8 p.m. at Trinity Church in Newport to help unload pumpkins from various trucks. This site is located on trolley line.

Saturday, Oct. 6: Clean Ocean Access
Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. at Sachuest (Second) Beach in Middletown to clean up the beach. Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 11:45 a.m., return at 2 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 7: Newport Marathon
Volunteers are needed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Easton’s (First) Beach in Newport to help Clean Ocean Access with dune protection and recycling for the Newport Marathon. Additional volunteers will help with litter removal along the running path shortly after the last runner passes. Available shifts are 5-8 a.m., 8-11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Transportation is not provided as this event is walking distance from campus.

Saturday, Oct. 13: Emmanuel Church
Volunteers are needed from 9-11 a.m. at Emmanuel Church in Newport to help with indoor and outdoor cleanup. This site is located on the trolley line.

Sunday, Oct. 14: Potter League for Animals
Volunteers are needed from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Glen Park in Portsmouth to help with the Potter League’s annual Heart & Sole Walk for Animals. Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 1 p.m., return at 2:30 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 15: Housing Hotline
Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to make T-shirt bags for Housing Hotline. Transportation is not available for this on-campus event.

Tuesday, Oct. 16: St. Paul’s Church
Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. in the Mercy Center to make desserts for St. Paul’s Church’s Warm up Wednesday program. Transportation is not available for this on-campus event.

Wednesday, Oct. 17 and Thursday, Oct. 18: Daffy Days
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Wakehurst lawn to pack 45,000 daffodil bulbs in “Let’s Get Daffy” bags, which will be given to Newport residents and businesses to plant throughout the city this fall. Transportation is not available for this on-campus event.

Wednesday, Oct. 17: Donovan Manor
Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to create seashell ornaments for Donovan Manor. Transportation is not available for this on-campus event.

Thursday, Oct. 18: Head Start
Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to make Halloween masks for children of Head Start. Transportation is not available for this on-campus event.

Friday, Oct. 19: My Brother’s Keeper
Volunteers are needed from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to help out at My Brother’s Keeper. Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 8:30 a.m., return to campus around 2:30 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 20: Daffy Giveaway
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon at Easton’s (First) Beach to help with the free Daffy giveaway to Newport residents and businesses. Transportation is not provided as this event is in walking distance from campus.

Saturday, Oct. 20: Gifts to Give
Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help out at Gifts to Give. Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 9:30 a.m., return to campus around 3 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 26: Emmanuel Church
Volunteers are needed from 4-9 p.m. at Emmanuel Church in Newport to help with harvest fair. This site is located on the trolley line.

Saturday, Oct. 27: Emmanuel Church
Volunteers are needed from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Church in Newport to help with harvest fair. Available shifts are 7:30-10:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and/or 1:30-3:30 p.m. This site is located on the trolley line.

      Meet with a member of Admissions Office to hear about Salve Regina's mission, campus life and academics directly from an admissions counselor in a group setting. It's a great introduction to Salve Regina and all the opportunities that exist for you here. 

      A virtual information session is designed for those who are in the college search and application process. If you would like to learn more about Salve Regina University and have your questions answered in a live chat, this is the best place to start. Our sessions last approximately one hour.

      You will also be able to view our virtual tour as part of your registration for this presentation.

    • Reunion Weekend
      Friday, June 3 to Sunday, June 5

      Reunion Weekend will be packed with exciting events both on and off campus. It's been too long since we've been able to welcome you to campus for a reunion celebration, so these events are sure to be worth the trip back to Newport. Return to campus and reconnect with your classmates - all alumni are welcome to attend.

      Hear from University leaders the state of student life and where Salve Regina is headed. Whether you’ve recently graduated or you’re returning after a hiatus, campus has updates!
