Community service opportunities: Week of Feb. 24

The Office of Community Service has several service opportunities available this week. For more information on service opportunities in general, contact the Office of Community Service at (401) 341-2440 or community.services@salve.edu.

Newport Hospital

Newport Hospital is seeking a volunteer to take pictures of “volunteers in action” and create a PowerPoint presentation for the annual volunteer awards ceremony. The student must have his/her own reliable transportation and be able to attend the May 1 awards ceremony to run the presentation on standard lap top projector. This will be a 10 hour minimum commitment. Upperclassman with experience in computer graphics preferred. For an interview, email the Newport Hospital volunteer office at lcoble@lifespan.org.

Visiting Nurse Services

Visiting Nurse Services is seeking volunteers for various opportunities, including office assistance, archiving projects and maintenance projects. Volunteers are also needed to learn how to install emergency response devices in patients’ homes on an as-needed basis. For more information, email Dale Dupuis at daubrey@vnsri.org.

Learning Unlimited

The Learning Unlimited program is seeking volunteers to actively engage with people with developmental disabilities through education, recreation and socialization. For more information, contact Michele Banks at (401) 862-0403 or michele.banks@salve.edu.

Save the Bay

Volunteers are needed to welcome visitors, help out with mailings, reception, data entry, filing and more. For more information, contact July Lewis at (401) 272-3540 Ext. 130 or volunteer@savebay.org.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is seeking volunteers for its soup kitchen at 5 p.m. Fridays and 4 p.m. Sundays. They are also seeking volunteers for their kids and teens activities from 5-7 p.m. Thursdays. If you have daytime availability, they could use help stocking the food pantry, working in the community garden and doing other service projects. For more information, call Denise at (401) 846-3234.
