Hurricane Sandy Relief

Looking to help with Hurricane Sandy relief? The Office of Community Service will hold an informational meeting and discussion at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9. Please bring a friend and your ideas. For more information, e-mail community.services@salve.edu.

King’s Beach Cleanup

After the devastation Hurricane Sandy left on coastal Rhode Island, there will be a beach cleanup on King’s Beach from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. If interested, contact community.services@salve.edu.

Pell Bridge Run

The Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run, sponsored by Newport Hospital, is a four-mile run/walk scheduled for 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11. All proceeds will support local nonprofits, including the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. Volunteers are needed very early. The MLK Center needs help at the race finish line at the Citizens Bank branch in Washington Square. Duties include crowd control, cheering for runners, handing out water and race medals and general race support. Volunteers will receive a race T-shirt and refreshments and will be asked to sign a volunteer waiver. If interested, contact Alyson Novick at anovick@mlkccenter.org or (401) 846-4828 Ext. 102.

Office of Community Service Food Drive

Non-perishable food items will be collected throughout resident halls and campus offices and will be donated to the annual feed-a-friend fundraiser held by the Office of Community Service. If you or any sports teams or clubs would like to donate a basket, e-mail community.services@salve.edu.

Methodist Community Gardens

The Methodist Community Gardens is seeking volunteers to commit to weekly volunteer opportunities at their gardens. Tasks would include harvesting food that will be donated to shelters and group homes such as the MLK Center and the McKinney Shelter. If interested, contact lswwood@cox.net.
