Department of Performing Arts plans spring concerts

The Department of Performing Arts has several spring concerts on tap, including performances from the University’s choral groups along with the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the Newport County Orchestra.

Admission is $8 for general and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door for all concerts. For more information, call (401) 341-2295.

Newport County Orchestra

The Newport County Orchestra, composed of Salve Regina students, members of the local community and advanced high school students, will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Vincent Mattera, the concert will feature the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Giuseppe Verdi, Aram Khachaturian and the orchestra’s own Gael Berberick.

Newport Community Symphonic Band

The spring band concert, featuring performance from the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the percussion, flute and jazz ensembles, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, May 3 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Peter Davis, the concert will feature the music of Alfred Reed, Peter Mennin, Antonin Dvorak, John Williams and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Choral groups

The spring choral concert, featuring performances from the University Chorus, Madrigals and the a cappella groups Cliffnotes and Pitches with Attitude, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5 in Ochre Court. Directed by Donald St. Jean, the concert will feature the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, William Billings and Randall Thompson along with spirituals and selections from “Les Miserables.”
