Four members of the women’s tennis team – Elizabeth DiFilippo ’15, Julie Grant ’16, Anastasia Lara ’15 and Elizabeth Liguori ’14 – were recently recognized as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) scholar-athletes. In addition, the team posted an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25 to qualify as an ITA all-academic team.

The Seahawks were one of three women’s tennis programs in the Commonwealth Coast Conference to earn the team honor, joining Roger Williams University and Western New England University on the list.

“We emphasize strong academics at the beginning of each season, throughout the year, during recruiting, all the time,” head coach Ed Habershaw said. “Especially for a Division III program, we want the strong tennis but the academics are a must.”

Salve Regina will open its 2013-2014 season with a home conference match versus Roger Williams Aug. 31 and welcome more than 15 prospective members into its preseason and tryouts Aug. 18.
