As Salve Regina ends Earth Week with another Friday of remote learning, McKillop Library wanted to share some fun activities and resources to keep the Earth at the forefront of your mind during the weekend.

Read below for many ways to keep engaging with the issues surrounding climate change during this historic moment in the midst of a global pandemic.

Earth Day at Salve: 50 years of activism and care

How has the Salve Regina community honored Earth Day over these past 50 years? Learn more through an essay by Salve Regina Archivist Genna Duplisea that provides links to digital objects from our collections and other resources to illuminate Salve Regina’s history of activism for the care of our common home.

Earth Challenge 2020

Get involved in the Earth Challenge 2020 and join millions around the world as they participate in online activities and make changes in their own lives to be better stewards of the earth. You can also visit the library’s website to get started and find online events around the country. Even in your own home, you can start with small steps: Measure air quality through an app on your phone, pledge to eat a plant-based meal or protect our species by taking the pesticide pledge.

Student spotlight on endangered species

Take a moment to view images of endangered species provided by conservation biology (BIO-255) students from Dr. Jameson Chace’s course.

E-books and films

McKillop Library offers access to many e-book titles with environmental themes that you may read online or download, as well as films that feature environmentalists such as Jane Goodall and Greta Thunberg, which may be streamed online through the library’s website.

Tell us!

We want to hear from you – what have you done this during this historic week and what are your plans of action for the coming year? Post it here.

Each Friday, SALVEtoday will provide fun ideas and experiences to encourage and uplift the University community during this time of remote living and learning. #salvesgotthis #funfridays
