The Office of Human Resources has planned several wellness week events for faculty and staff, ranging from the annual Benefits/Wellness Fair to a preventive medicine workshop. To register for any of the events listed below, contact Cindy Donnelly at (401) 341-3160 or cynthia.donnelly@salve.edu.

Benefits/Wellness Fair

The annual Benefits/Wellness Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 in Ochre Court. The fair will feature benefit information, health screenings, chair massages and raffle prizes. Employees are encouraged to sign the attendance sheet to satisfy one of the two required HR-sponsored workshops in the 2013 Wellness Rewards program.

Healthy back material handling

Kurt Bodziony will present a healthy back material handling workshop at noon Wednesday, May 8 in the Ochre Court breakfast room. The workshop will address specific tasks and jobs performed by employees. In addition to proper lifting techniques and stretching, the workshop will highlight what occurs with our back as we encounter awkward postures, forceful exertions and poor lifting techniques. Attendees will receive an ergonomics educational brochure and a card with simple stretches that can be performed throughout the day.

Mindfulness and meditation

Christopher Carbone will present a mindfulness and meditation workshop at 12:15 p.m. Friday, May 10 in the Ochre Court breakfast room. Participants will experience basic techniques and ways of being to help unwind and release stress naturally. Discover ways to explore your breath, your inner-awareness and other centering practices that can help you find clarity, lift your spirits, boost your immune system and improve your overall health and well-being.

Carbone is known for bringing a positive and gentle spirit into his work with people of all ages in the local communities. He serves as coordinator of the graduate programs in the expressive arts, dedicated to training counselors, educators, health care practitioners and other professionals in utilizing the arts for growth and well-being.

Preventive medicine

Kristin Boudreau will present a preventive medicine workshop at noon Friday, June 21 in the Ochre Court breakfast room. The workshop will focus on preventive medicine for the springtime based on traditional Chinese medicine theory. It will include general information about traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, followed by useful lifestyle tips for keeping oneself healthy during the springtime.

After suffering from chronic Lyme disease for more than 10 years during her childhood and early adulthood, Boudreau has personally witnessed the difficulties of chronic illness and the healing effects of oriental medicine. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge with her patients to empower them in achieving their own ideal state of health.
