Two of the city’s largest employers – Salve Regina and Newport Hospital – will celebrate a longstanding, multifaceted partnership that benefits the Aquidneck Island community in myriad ways when “Salve Regina Day at Newport Hospital” is held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18.

The public is invited to join with representatives from both Salve Regina and Newport Hospital in the Gudoian Conference Room on the first floor of the hospital, where refreshments will be served. The hospital is located at 11 Friendship St. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to (401) 341-2355 or alumni@salve.edu.

Newport Hospital President Crista Durand and Newport County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Erin Donovan-Boyle, both of whom are Salve Regina graduates, will join Salve Regina President Jane Gerety, RSM, in offering remarks. Gerety is a former hospital administrator who served as senior vice president, sponsorship and corporate compliance officer at Saint Joseph’s Health System in Atlanta before becoming Salve Regina’s president in 2009.

“The missions of service of both Newport Hospital and Salve Regina are so closely aligned that it is natural that we have been and will continue to be partners in service to the community,” Gerety said. “I look forward to an even closer relationship as we move into the future.”

Approximately 75 Salve Regina graduates are currently employed at Newport Hospital in a variety of administration, leadership, nursing and administrative support positions, in addition to the many volunteers. Salve Regina nursing students gain valuable experiential learning opportunities within the Lifespan Hospitals network as part of their rigorous academic program. Some of these students will be on hand to conduct blood pressure screenings on Friday.

University representatives will also be available with information about admissions, academic offerings, continuing education, human resources, employment opportunities, alumni and career services, and more.

“When I studied at Salve Regina, a favorite motto was ‘be your best self,’ and that belief has served as a foundation for my career,” Durand said. “Now – having the opportunity to be back in Newport charting Newport Hospital’s path forward in a new future health care landscape – it’s a pleasure partnering with Salve Regina to help serve the needs of this community of which I’ve grown so fond.”
