The founding Sisters of Mercy opened the gates of Salve Regina to the institution’s first class of students in 1947. Seventy-five years later, their vision endures as the University moves forward under a Strategic Compass built upon the mercy-inspired values that are a hallmark of a Salve Regina education.

Members of the campus community will commemorate the anniversary with a variety of events throughout the upcoming academic year that highlight the University’s history and showcase transformative initiatives under way that are designed to challenge students as they discover all the Salve Regina experience offers.

Inspired by Catherine McAuley’s love for “a comfortable cup of tea,” the mercy tea will provide the opportunity to gather Sept. 21 to listen to stories from friends and colleagues from across the campus community.

Fall Festival Weekend events begin Friday, Sept. 23 with a day of service and ‘Carrying the Light of Mercy,’ an artistic storytelling walk beginning at the gates of Gerety Hall and featuring student performances at illuminated stations along the driveway. Followed by the annual Hunger Concert, the evening is an opportunity for students, families, alumni, faculty and staff to gather, united in honor of this important milestone in the University’s history.

Additional kick-off events include a heritage walk, StoryCorps memory project, Saturday seminars, Mercy Day Mass, a 75th anniversary birthday party and festival, and much more.

“Salve’s 75th anniversary is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our past and all that we have achieved as a campus community,” says Dr. Kelli J. Armstrong, president of Salve Regina. “It is also a time to build upon the power of our University mission and our commitment to the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy, which together empower our students and alumni to fulfill the mercy promise by effecting change and making a difference in our world.”

Registration is now open for the many 75th anniversary events planned during Fall Festival Weekend and Mercy Week. For the most up-to-date program and registration information throughout the anniversary year, visit salve.edu/75th.
