Service Week offers volunteer opportunities around campus

Service Week – an opportunity for students to participate in service on campus or within walking distance – will be held Oct. 15-20. Ten different service opportunities will be offered throughout the week.

Monday, Oct. 15

  • 7-9 p.m., Wakehurst, Room 201 – Volunteers are needed to make T-shirt bags for Housing Hotline. Volunteer cap is 20.

Tuesday, Oct. 16

  • 7-9 p.m., Mercy Center for Spiritual Life – Volunteers are needed to make desserts for St. Paul’s Church’s Warm Up Wednesday program. Volunteer cap is 7.

Wednesday, Oct. 17

  • 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wakehurst lawn – Volunteers are needed to pack 45,000 daffodil bulbs in “Let’s Get Daffy” bags, which will be distributed to Newport residents and businesses throughout the fall. Volunteer cap is 50.
  • Noon, Wakehurst, Room 101 – Meet local community partners and discuss upcoming service opportunities during the monthly service table. Refreshments will be provided.
  • 7-9 p.m., Wakehurst, Room 201 – Volunteers are needed to create seashell ornaments for residents of Donovan Manor. Volunteer cap is 20.

Thursday, Oct. 18

  • 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wakehurst lawn – Volunteers are needed to pack 45,000 daffodil bulbs in “Let’s Get Daffy” bags, which will be distributed to Newport residents and businesses throughout the fall. Volunteer cap is 50.
  • 7-9 p.m., Wakehurst, Room 201 – Volunteers are needed to make Halloween masks for children enrolled in Head Start. Volunteer cap is 20.

Friday, Oct. 19

  • 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – Volunteers are needed to help out at My Brother’s Keeper in Massachusetts. Van transportation will leave Miley Hall at 8:30 a.m. and return to campus around 2:30 p.m. Volunteer cap is 10.
  • 7-9 p.m., Wakehurst, Room 201 – Volunteers are needed to make cat toys for the Potter League. Volunteer cap is 15.

Saturday, Oct. 20

  • 9 a.m. to noon, Easton’s (First) Beach – Volunteers are needed to help with the free daffodil bulb giveaway for Newport residents and businesses. Volunteer cap is 50.
