Members of the Salve Regina community are invited to donate new or gently used shoes to the Office of Community Service’s “Stepping Out of Darkness” shoe drive.

The office is aiming to collect 1,100 pairs of shoes by Thursday, March 17. The shoes will be displayed during the SRyou Student Exhibition on April 1 and then donated to the Massachusetts-based nonprofit GiftsToGive.

GiftsToGive is an organization that aims to tackle child poverty by collecting donated children’s gear that is then recycled, repurposed and gifted to local children in need. GiftsToGive serves young adults up to age 21, so shoe donations of all types and sizes will be accepted.

Donations may be dropped off at the Office of Community Service, located in Wakehurst, Room 201. To schedule a pickup of larger donations, call (401) 341-2440.
