Student health education program hosting Safe Spring Break Week
The student health education program is sponsoring Safe Spring Break Week March 4-7 and will host informational tables from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the week. The schedule is as follows:
Personal Safety Day
Monday, March 4, O’Hare Academic Center lobby
Some tips: The “date rape drugs” Rohypnol and GHB are small pills that cause impaired judgment, partial limb paralysis, confusion and the inability to speak clearly. Never leave a drink unattended while you dance, use the bathroom or talk with a friend. Always use the buddy system, use common sense, be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. Be aware of health care costs in case an emergency arises.
Staying Safe in the Sun Day
Tuesday, March 5, Miley Hall and O’Hare Academic Center lobbies
Some tips: Always use sunscreen. Wear a hat and sunglasses. Tanning beds are not safe and should be avoided. Today’s informational tables are co-sponsored by the American Marketing Association and Salve Regina’s peer educators.
Alcohol Awareness Day
Wednesday, March 6, Miley Hall, O’Hare Academic Center and Wakehurst lobbies
Some tips: Pace yourself. Always watch your drink. Go out with friends; come home with the same friends. Be aware of alcohol poisoning; don’t be afraid to make the call. Today’s informational tables are co-sponsored by Counseling Services and members of the Red Watch Band program.
Healthy Relationships Day
Thursday, March 7, O’Hare Academic Center lobby
Some tips: Always use protection
and gain consent. Respect your partner’s boundaries. If you or your partner is under the influence do not engage in sexual activity. Today’s informational table is co-sponsored by VIRGO (Volunteers Interested in Reaching and Guiding Others).
