Salve Regina’s theater program will present the classical American musical “Gypsy” in the Casino Theatre April 10-14. Directed by Tom Gleadow, performances will be given at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, with 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors and military and $8 for Salve Regina students, faculty and staff. Tickets are available online or by calling the box office at (401) 341-2250.

In “Gypsy,” Mama Rose is the show-tune-singing King Lear of stage moms and a pragmatic Mother Courage tirelessly stomping across the gooey battlefields we call love and show business. Set mostly against a background of the Great Depression, the musical walks a fine line between high drama and high camp, serving up gritty object lessons about survival, obsession and terrible parenting skills. It does all that to the fanfare of cheeky trumpets and the growl of lewd trombones.

The cast includes Dakota Benson ’22, Jillian Brooks-Duval ’20, Abbie Burchard ’21, Darren Christie ’19, Sophia Collins ’22, Maggie Corbutt ’21, Julia Curtin ’20, Michael Gillis ’22, Faith Lambert ’22, Danny Landino ’20, Skyler Lasit ’22, Ashley McCarthy ’22, Sarah Menard ’22, Madisyn Mugavero ’19, Claire Noonan ’22, Morgan Salpietro ’19, Vanessa Sciolto ’19 and Bradley Simpson ’20.

The artistic and production staff includes Christina Cannilla ’22, Kathryn Coppa ’19, Jane Greenip ’22, Joey Morelli ’21 and Amy Veron ’21. Students playing with the band include Tim Jaeger ’21, Jasper Khambaylarsirikul ’21, Bryce Sholtes ’20, Ricky Tegtmeier ’19, Jordan Ullathorne ’22 and Sophia Valiente ’21.
