Two student-athletes representing baseball and softball recently received weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Baseball

Zack Smith ’19 was named player of the week after totaling six home runs, four doubles, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored in six games for the Seahawks. He batted an impressive .560 (14-for-25) with a .533 on-base percentage and a 1.440 slugging percentage.

Smith opened the week with two home runs in a 5-3 non-conference win over Rhode Island College, then added four more homers in a doubleheader split with conference rival Western New England University. He recorded four hits in back-to-back conference wins over Roger Williams University and WNE, while adding three more hits in the WNE finale.

The Seahawks (15-8, 5-2 CCC) have non-league games at the beginning and end of the week with conference matchups against Roger Williams University and Endicott College in between.

Softball

Andi Nelson ’21 was named pitcher of the week after posting a 3-1 weekly record with one save and a 0.28 ERA over five appearances and two starts. Over 24-2/3 innings, she permitted just one earned run on 14 hits. Nelson also struck out 24 and walked only five.

In her first of two conference starts, Nelson pitched a two-hit complete-game shutout in a 4-0 victory over Gordon College, striking out nine batters in seven innings. In a 6-5 setback at University of New England, she allowed just one earned run in 9-1/3 innings of work, striking out 10 and walking two.

The Seahawks (13-12, 5-3 CCC) have a pair of road doubleheaders before returning to Toppa Field on Sunday, April 14 to host Nichols College at noon.
