USS sponsoring series of technology workshops

User Support Services will sponsor a series of technology workshops for members of the Salve Regina community throughout the month of April. Topics will range from iMovie to Windows 8 to Photoshop fundaments. Workshops are open to all members of the University community.

iMovie with Dan Titus

2 p.m. Friday, April 12 or 2 p.m. Friday, April 26 in the Antone Academic Center, Room 124

Ever want to make your own movie from the plethora of video footage you have? Ever ask yourself how they do that after watching an Internet or e-mail video? Learn the basics using iMovie. A short introduction to the software, this workshop will cover importing and editing video, creating basic transitions between scenes and saving the project so it can be shared with others.

Windows Movie Maker with Dan Titus

10 a.m. Friday, April 12 or 10 a.m. Friday, April 26 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 007

Learn how to import and edit slideshows and videos, add photos and footage from a PC or camera and then fine-tune your movie. Themes, transitions and effects will also be covered, along with sharing your work with the world.

Photoshop Fundamentals and Digital Photography Editing with Michael Marshall

10 a.m. Friday, April 19 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 005

New to Photoshop and feel a bit lost amidst the overwhelming number of functions that it offers? Learn what’s new with the latest version of Adobe Photoshop CS6. This workshop will provide a user-friendly introduction to several basic photo-editing techniques while also introducing you to other “free” alternatives such as Picasa.

Intro to Windows 8 with Michael Marshall

2 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 or 10 a.m. Thursday, April 18 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 007

An introduction to the newest Microsoft operating system, Windows 8. See the new Windows interface and explore the feature-rich environment designed to compete with the newest mobile operating systems such as Android and iOS.

Microsoft Word 2010 with Dan Titus

10 a.m. Monday, April 8 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 005 or 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 006

An introduction to Microsoft Word 2010. No prior knowledge of Word is necessary.

Microsoft Excel 2010 with Dan Titus

10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9 or 1 p.m. Thursday, April 25 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 007

An introduction-to-intermediate class in Microsoft Excel. No prior knowledge of Excel is necessary.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 with Dan Titus

1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 006 or 10 a.m. Monday, April 22 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 005

Learn how to add multimedia to your Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. Some PowerPoint experience will be helpful.

Microsoft Outlook 2010 with Dan Titus

1 p.m. Thursday, April 11 or 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 007

Learn the basics to advanced features such as organizational tips and tricks, data backup, vCards, signature blocks, options and preferences.

Microsoft Publisher 2010 with Dan Titus

Microsoft Publisher helps you create, personalize and share a wide range of professional-quality publications and marketing materials.

Microsoft Visio 2010 with Dan Titus

10 a.m. Thursday, April 11 or 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 in the McKillop Library, Computer Lab 007

Build diagrams with professional-looking templates and modern, pre-drawn shapes and easily share your diagram with popular data sources such as Excel.
