USS sponsoring technology workshops throughout November

User Support Services will sponsor a series of technology workshops for members of the Salve Regina community throughout the month of November. Topics will range from iTunes to Microsoft Word to YouTube. Workshops are open to all faculty, staff and students.

iTunes

  • 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6
  • Antone Academic Center, Room 122

Want to learn how to use your iTunes digital media player? This workshop will introduce the newest version of Apple’s iTunes used for playing and organizing digital music and video files. Topics include creating playlists, syncing your iPod, searching the iTunes store and renting movies online.

iMovie

  • 2:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9
  • Antone Academic Center, Room 122

Did you ever want to make your own movie and then edit it? Ever ask yourself, “How do they do that?” after watching a short Internet or e-mail video? Now you can learn the basics using iMovie. Topics include importing video, editing video, creating basic transitions between scenes and saving the project so it can be shared.

Digital Photography Editing

  • Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14
  • McKillop Library, Computer Lab 006

Participants will learn how to edit and manipulate photographs and look at a number of software solutions such as Photoshop and Picasa.

Advanced Word 2010

  • 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 15
  • McKillop Library, Computer Lab 006

Do you know how to create a basic document and kick it up a notch? This workshop will explore some of the more advanced features of Word 2010, including protecting, sharing and advanced formatting of documents. Other topics include creating templates, macros, tracking and referencing, and mail merge.

YouTube

  • 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15
  • McKillop Library, Computer Lab 005

Broadcast yourself with the popular video-sharing website YouTube. This workshop will cover the basics of the interface, including uploading and deleting videos.

WebEx

  • 11 a.m. to noon and 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20
  • McKillop Library, Computer Lab 006

Remote meetings anywhere, anytime – from a computer or a mobile device. Bring your class or meeting out to the world. Participants will explore the process of creating a meeting and joining a meeting from a desktop or mobile device.

Windows Movie Maker

  • Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21
  • McKillop Library, Computer Lab 006

Participants will learn how to import and edit slideshows and videos, add photos and footage from their computer or camera and then fine-tune their movie. Other topics include themes, transitions and effects and sharing your work with the world.

MyData

  • 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29
  • McKillop Library, Computer Lab 005

This workshop will look at the most current version of Salve Regina’s online storage system. Access your files from anywhere in the world through an Internet connection and a browser – now with more storage.

      A virtual information session is designed for those who are in the college search and application process. If you would like to learn more about Salve Regina University and have your questions answered in a live chat, this is the best place to start. Our sessions last approximately one hour.

      You will also be able to view our virtual tour as part of your registration for this presentation.

It's been too long since we've been able to welcome you to campus for a reunion celebration, so these events are sure to be worth the trip back to Newport.
