Wellness Wednesdays: Two-part meditation to focus on love and joy

Makenzie Curr ’20, peer wellness educator, offers a two-part meditation on love and joy this week to help bring stress relief and relaxation to the Salve Regina community.

Part one of this meditation is to help you focus on a loved one or a place you love in order to help lighten your mind during these difficult times. Part two will then bring you into a meditation on exploring the concept of joy.

Focusing on positive things like love and joy will help lift your spirits as you let your mind and body meditate on good, nourishing things instead of everything else going on in the world right now.

Makenzie Curr ’20 is a psychology major with a minor in health care administration here at Salve Regina. She is a peer wellness educator, a third year residential advisor, president of the Mind Body Wellness Club and takes an active part in engaging students holistically to assist them in being their best selves. Her goal is to become a positive psychologist and mental health counselor, and she is currently taking courses within the MA in Holistic Clinical Mental Health Counseling that the University offers.

A peer wellness educator (PWE) is a new student leadership position that was added to the Student Leadership Application just this year within Student Affairs. Currently, the program runs out of the Center for Student Development, and Connelly Clifford, office and student wellness coordinator for the center, is supervising the PWEs.

The PWEs assist with increasing awareness around overall wellness and advocating to build a culture of well-being and positive mental health at Salve Regina. Originally, the intent was to develop programs, workshops, activities and other ways to help advocate for wellness on the University campus. Right now, they’re focusing their efforts on their Instagram account to keep Salve Regina students informed during remote learning.

Student Affairs has a wellness page on the Salve Regina website. It links to various offices across campus who have resources or initiatives related to different aspects of wellness. Students will be able to access this site at any time to learn more and gather tools that may be most beneficial to them.

Each Wednesday, SALVEtoday will provide wellness tips to encourage and uplift the University community during this time of remote living and learning. #salvesgotthis #wellnesswednesdays
