Women’s basketball names three captains

Women’s basketball coach Cori Hughes has named three team captains for 2013-2014: Lisa Bucci ’14, Marissa Pendergast ’14 and Taylor Windwer ’14.

“All three of our senior captains are really positive, unselfish and lead by example,” Hughes said. “But they are also really different personalities, and each fulfill an important role as a leader on this team.”

Under Hughes’ direction, Salve Regina has won three Commonwealth Coast Conference championships in six years while compiling a won-loss record of 111-56 (.665). The Seahawks have reached the conference finals all three seasons with Bucci, Pendergast and Windwer.

Salve Regina opens its 2013-2014 season against the University of Southern Maine on Friday, Nov. 15. The Seahawks will not play at home until Jan. 2, 2014, when they host the University of Massachusetts Boston.
