Department of Performing Arts plans holiday concerts
The Department of Performing Arts has several holiday concerts on tap, including performances from the University’s choral groups along with the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the Newport County Orchestra.
This year, all students, faculty and staff will receive a complimentary ticket for the performance of their choice. To claim the ticket, download the concert ticket form and e-mail it to Charles Avenengo.
Admission for all others is $8 for general and $5 for seniors. Tickets will be sold in advance for all four concerts and also at the door for the band and orchestra concerts.
Choral groups
The Christmas choral concert, featuring performances from the University Chorus, Madrigals, men’s and women’s ensembles and student soloists, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8 in Ochre Court. Directed by Don St. Jean, the concert will feature music from Handel’s “Messiah” along with other seasonal favorites.
Newport Community Symphonic Band
The holiday band concert, featuring performances from the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the percussion, flute and jazz ensembles, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Peter Davis, the concert will feature holiday music.
Newport County Orchestra
The Newport County Orchestra, composed of Salve Regina students, members of the local community and advanced high school students, will present its holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Vincent Mattera, the concert will feature the music of Handel, Mozart, Bizet, Reed and Anderson.
