Salve Regina preparing to renovate, expand Miley Hall
Salve Regina expects to break ground on a construction project centered on the renovation and expansion of the Miley Hall cafeteria on Monday, Nov. 12.
The expansion will accomplish two major goals:
- Seating in the cafeteria will increase by 180 seats or about 50 percent
- The existing seating and food lines will be replaced by a modern marketplace concept consisting of seven interactive dining stations disbursed around the cafeteria.
The expanded garden level will feature a student lounge, coffee outlet and mini-mart. Since one of the seven stations in the cafeteria will feature a grill option, Original Burger will be closed and converted into offices for Campus Life.
On-site work is expected to begin in mid-November. All existing functions in Miley will remain in operation until after the May 2013 Commencement weekend. The project will be completed in August 2013.
The entrance to the garden level of Miley (facing Webster Street) will close when work begins and will remain closed until the project is completed. Members of the Salve Regina community will be able to access the bookstore, Original Burger, Health Services and Counseling Services through the main entrance and lobby staircase, from the courtyard or from New Residence.
Handicapped access to the lower level of Miley will be available from the courtyard or from New Residence’s Narragansett Avenue entrance and elevator.
As with any large construction project, noise and other disruptions should be expected. For the latest updates on the Miley construction project, members of the University community are encouraged to visit miley.salvereginablogs.com.
