Social Work Club, Alliance sponsoring book discussion
The Social Work Club and the Alliance will sponsor a discussion of Jennifer Finney Boylan’s “She’s Not There: A Life in Two Genders” at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 in the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life.
“She’s Not There” is the story of a person changing genders, the story of a person bearing and finally revealing a complex secret; above all, it is a love story. The book explores the remarkable territory that lies between men and women, examines changing friendships, and rejoices in the redeeming power of family. “She’s Not There” is a portrait of a loving marriage – the love of James for his wife, Grace, and against all odds, the enduring love of Grace for the woman who becomes her “sister,” Jenny.
All members of the Salve Regina community, even those who haven’t read the book, are welcome to join in the discussion. In addition to the book, the discussion will explore the special challenges faced by those who are transgender.
Chinese food will be served during the discussion. The clubs request that those interested in attending RSVP to Dr. Barbara Sylvia at sylviab@salve.edu or Mona Dube at (401) 341-2425.
