Semester in Service, Service Plunge 2.0 deadlines approaching
The Semester in Service program connects dedicated and motivated Salve Regina students with nonprofit organizations in need of long-term volunteers. In addition, Semester in Service participants are required to do one service hour in the Center for Community Engagement and Service on a weekly basis. The Semester in Service online application will close on Friday, Jan. 31 at noon. All applicants interested for Spring 2020 can apply online.
For Spring 2020, Semester in Service will run from Jan. 21 through May 1. During these weeks, students will volunteer weekly at the nonprofit organization of their choice. Van transportation picks up at Miley Hall 15 minutes prior to volunteer starting time (except during national holidays and/or University closings).
In addition, our Service Plunge 2.0 volunteer retreat is April 3-5. Participants have the opportunity to work closely with hunger awareness issues or environmental issues. Participant applications are online now until Feb 21 at noon, and participation is on a first come, first serve basis.
Here are the following ongoing service opportunities for Semester in Service:
Child & Family
Fridays from 2-5 p.m. (pickup at Miley Hall at 1:45 p.m.)
Capacity: 14
Child & Family is seeking students to serve as additional staff support in its early care and education center. Volunteers will work in classrooms with teachers to support all aspects of the day-to-day duties within an early childhood classroom setting. Students must pass a CANTS background check and tuberculosis test, and they must also submit fingerprints and proof of MMR, chickenpox and flu immunizations.

Potter League for Animals
Fridays from 2-5 p.m. (pickup at Miley Hall at 1:45 p.m.)
Capacity: 14
The Potter League is seeking students to assist with daily morning cleaning, obedience training for dogs, training and socialization for cats, bunny socialization, clerical assistance, and outdoor projects such as landscaping and painting. In addition to registering through the Office of Community Service, students should also submit an online application to the Potter League.

Salvation Army
Monday through Friday between 9-2 p.m. (This site is located on the trolley line)
Capacity: 5
The Salvation Army is seeking students to help assist with basic day-to-day duties. Volunteers may choose to go at their convenience based upon their schedule. Volunteers will ride the trolley line.

Lucy’s Hearth
Fridays from 2-5 p.m. (pickup at Miley Hall at 1:45 p.m.)
Capacity: 14
Volunteers at Lucy’s Hearth can assist with day to day shelter operations by preparing residents and the building for the weekend, organizing activities for children, preparing residents for move out, donation room organization and maintenance, childcare and much more.
