Pell Center hosting issues forum and presidential debate watch
The Pell Center will host an issues forum and debate watch at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 in the Young Building. Seating is very limited and those interested in attending should contact the Pell Center at (401) 341-2927 or pellcenter@salve.edu.
The evening will kick off with a spirited discussion of national security and foreign policy, featuring Michael Auslin of the American Enterprise Institute and Michael Cohen of the Century Foundation. Participants will use electronic survey tools to measure audience opinions, and leave plenty of time for audience questions.
The main event – Obama vs. Romney – will begin at 9 p.m. Settle in with some popcorn and watch the debate with your Pell Center friends. The experts will be around to answer questions and the audience will be surveyed to decide who wins and who loses – at least at the Pell Center.
Auslin, the American Enterprise Institute’s director of Japan studies, was an associate professor of history and senior research fellow at the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University prior to joining the institute. A frequent commentator in U.S. and foreign media, he is also a columnist for the Wall Street Journal.
Cohen is a writer and commentator on American politics and U.S. foreign policy. He is the author of “Live from the Campaign Trail: The Greatest Presidential Campaign Speeches of the 20th Century and How They Shaped Modern America,” as well as a columnist for Foreign Policy, where he writes a regular feature on politics and national security.
