Virtual webinar on healthcare and cybercrime during coronavirus
Cybersecurity expert Matthew McMahon, adjunct professor in Salve Regina’s graduate program in healthcare administration, will join The Horizon Program at MIT for a 30-minute online talk on Tuesday, May 5, at 11 a.m. to explore the intersection between cybersecurity and the current global health crisis.
McMahon’s public talk will examine why cybercrime has been disproportionately disruptive to healthcare during this critical time with attacks on the overall healthcare sector up 30 percent. As the COVID-19 outbreak has made implementing cybersecurity measures even more challenging, McMahon will break down various attacks and provide practical advice to help companies and individuals protect themselves. He will respond to questions from both cyber professionals and listeners from across all sectors.

McMahon has developed courses in Cybersecurity and Resiliency in Healthcare and Cybersecurity and Healthcare Policy at Salve Regina. Both courses are requirements of the cybersecurity concentration in Salve’s master’s program in healthcare administration. He has spoken on the topic of Cybersecurity and Healthcare at conferences and webinars such as the Health-ISAC’s Annual Summit’s, The Global Resilience Federation, The Healthcare Sector Coordinating Council’s 405(b) webinar series, Archimedes Medical Device Security 101 conference, New England’s HIMSS chapter events, at Salve’s Pell Center, the Rhode Island Corporate Cybersecurity Initiative (RICCI) Security Weekly, the Ocean State Higher Education Economic Development and Administration Network (OSHEAN) and at local hacker collectives (DEFCON401).
He currently works full-time as the acting Product Security Officer for the EMEA region with Siemens Healthineers and is a Cybersecurity Training Board member for Siemens AG. Additionally, he works as a Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert with The Horizon Program at MIT, where he helps develop cybersecurity training content.
