Community service opportunities: October
October is going to offer a wide range of service opportunities for students, including tutoring, being on Newport’s mask brigade and volunteering at a pumpkin patch.

Desk volunteer at Boys & Girls Club of Newport County
The Boys & Girls Club of Newport is looking for a volunteer to be a weekly desk attendant and greeter for its after school program. This volunteer would help weekly Monday through Thursday from 2-6 p.m.

Daily garden maintenance at Bike Newport
Bike Newport is looking for volunteers to assist with daily garden watering at the Bike Barn.

Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3: The City of Newport Mask Brigade at 40 Steps
Volunteers are needed from 3-5 p.m. to help out on the Cliff Walk/40 Steps area to hand out masks to people in need. Transportation is not provided, as this event is in walking distance from campus.
Saturday, Oct. 3: Gifts to Give
Volunteers are needed to help sort donation items at Gifts to Give from 11-2 p.m. Volunteers should dress in Salve gear and bring their own snacks for the day. Salve Van transportation is provided. Pick up is at Miley Hall at 9:30 a.m., and return is at 2 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 3: Clean Ocean Access Beach Clean up
Volunteers are needed to clean up around Gull Cove Beach in Portsmouth from 12-2 p.m. Transportation is not provided. Location is Gull Cove, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

Volunteers are needed to tutor high school students in various subjects at Child & Family Services in Middletown from 2-5 p.m. Volunteers should be prepared to work with high school students in a range of subjects and wear their Salve gear and masks. Transportation is provided at Miley Hall at 1:45 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 10: Clean Ocean Access Beach Clean Up
Volunteers are needed from 12-2 p.m. to help clean up Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. Transportation is not provided.

Sunday, Oct. 18 through Saturday, Oct. 31: Trinity Church Pumpkin Patch
Please note that there are numerous Trinity Pumpkin Patch volunteer opportunities available at different times and dates from October 18-31. Volunteers are required to wear masks and keep safe social distance while outside, and they are required to have no known exposure to anyone with Covid-19 or symptoms of Covid-19 at least 14 days prior to the event. Volunteers should also dress for the weather, since everyone will be outside. For transportation, students may consult the trolley line.
