Mercy Mondays: Updates from the Center of Community Engagement and Service
The Center of Community Engagement and Service has some updates and a few service opportunities left for the semester, so read below for some updates and information surrounding the center.
Water bottle filling station at The Boys & Girls Club of Newport
The Boys & Girls Club of Newport, Florence Gray Center (FGC) installed a GreenLove Foundation water bottle filling station in the spring of 2020, but the reveal ceremony that had been planned in conjunction with was cancelled due to COVID-19.
In partnership with Liberty Donuts and the the Center for Community Engagement and Service, the GreenLove Foundation was also able to donate reusable water bottles and stickers for all participating students. Now open, the FGC serves a large number of the community and offers services to young people in the areas of education, character and leadership, development, health, and sports and recreation, among others.
Orlando Peace, FGC’s coordinator, has deeply expressed the gratitude and excitement of the entire community on receiving the water bottle filling station and bottles. “The kids are over the top,” Peace said.
Award from Norman Bird Sanctuary
Norman Bird Sanctuary awarded the Center for Community Engagement and Service their “2020 Volunteer of the Year Award” at their Fall 2020 Meeting. Kelly Powers, director of Community Engagement and Service, and Kathleen Rendos, assistant director of Community Engagement and Service, accepted the award on behalf of the center.
Angel Tree drive ends Dec. 15

Make holiday ornaments for Aldersbridge Communities
Volunteers are needed to help provide holiday assistance to residents of Aldersbridge Communities who are unable to leave their rooms during this holiday season. If you are interested in volunteering virtually by creating holiday ornaments, please reach out to Saarah Papineau at saarah.papineau@salve.edu.
