Students invited to eSports open house from Jan. 21-Feb. 4
Staff members from Salve Regina’s office of information technology will be on hand weekdays from Jan. 21 through Feb. 4. to introduce students to the state-of-the-art gaming equipment and provide assistance with the technology featured at the new eSports facility in Gerety Hall.
The staff will be at the facility Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as on Thursday and Friday evenings from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Take-away lunches and beverages will also be available for students in the pub space at Gerety Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays through Feb. 4. Students may drop-in during the day, space permitting, but are asked to register for the evening visits here.
As part of the IT staff’s introduction of the eSports facility, a special “CIO Chess Challenge” will be also be presented on Friday, Jan. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. Register here. Students will have the opportunity to play a game of chess with Salve’s CIO, Irving Bruckstein. Winners will be automatically entered into a drawing for a new Dell Alienware Gaming notebook computer.
Along with the eSports open house, students will have access to billiard games, ping pong and lounge space with Covid precautions and spacing limits enforced.
Salve Regina’s eSports facility, located in the garden level of Gerety Hall, features 10 Alienware systems by Dell with custom-configured Intel multi-core i9 processors, complementary graphics processing units, and Alienware wireless gaming headsets.
The University is also under contract to offer students access to the Steam Café library of games. By signing into their existing Steam accounts or creating a free one here, students in the eSports facility will have access to a variety of games in the Steam library. The games include:
