Reading Across Rhode Island, Pell Center to host virtual kick-off of community reading program

Reading Across Rhode Island (RARI), Rhode Island’s community read program, kicks off virtually on Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with the the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy. The event will be held live on the Pell Center’s Facebook page.

RARI will be reading the “New York Times” bestselling book “Stamped,” an exploration of race and racism from award-winning authors Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi.

“Stamped,” which is a reimagining of the National Book Award-winning “Stamped from the Beginning,” reveals the history of racist ideas in America. This book shines a light on the many insidious forms of racist idea, as well as ways readers can identify and stamp out racist thoughts in their daily lives. Ultimately, it inspires hope for an antiracist future..

Readers are invited to join Providence mayor Jorge Elorza, RARI honorary chair Val Tutson and RARI education chair Maureen Nagle for an engaging introduction to the book. The discussion will be moderated by Jim Ludes, executive director of the Pell Center.

Reading Across Rhode Island is a program of the Rhode Island Center for the Book, and it is made possible through a vibrant collaboration of librarians, teachers, book group leaders and readers from across the state.
