Pell Center to hold roundtable on understanding “cancel culture”
The Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy will host a roundtable discussion about the concept of cancel culture on Friday, Feb. 12, at 11:45 a.m. on WebEx. Salve Regina staff, faculty and students are invited to participate.
If someone publicly expresses the “wrong” view, they might be “canceled.” But what does cancel culture actually look like? Online mobs might pressure an employer to fire them, a bank to stop servicing them, a Big Tech company to “deplatform” them, or an institution might cancel a planned event featuring them. This all threatens a culture of free speech, and with it the constitutional right to free speech.
Join Dr. Luigi Bradizza, an associate professor and chairperson in Salve Regina’s political science department, for this Pell Center event as the latest threat to free speech in America is explored. Dr. Luigi Bradizza is also a Pell Center faculty fellow.
To register for this event, please email pellcenter@salve.edu. Once confirmed, participants will receive the WebEx login link.
