Twelve women’s ice hockey players make AHCA All-American Scholars

The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) is once again recognizing varsity ice hockey players who compiled exceptional results in the classroom during the 2020-21 season, and they recently announced the fifth annual Krampade All-American Scholars.

Four hundred and fifty student-athletes qualified for Division III women’s ice hockey, including 12 from Salve Regina:

  • Carley Bauckham ’21, marketing
  • Sophie Beauchesne ’23, undecided
  • Colby Lopez-Balboa ’22, business administration
  • Maddie Cox ’23, financial management
  • Kaitlyn Fox ’24, business administration
  • Emma Gotthelf ’23, accounting
  • Rebecca Hasting ’21, administration of justice
  • Dakota McMahon ’22, biology
  • Brynn Mendes ’22, biology
  • Grace Schwartz ’23, biology
  • Paige Stapleton ’21, business administration
  • Emily Wagner ’23, business and psychology

“I am very proud of these student athletes who have made the ACHA All-American Scholar List,” said David Lun, Salve Regina’s head coach for women’s ice hockey team. “In a normal year, this is quite an accomplishment. However, this past year has been anything but normal. Considering all the challenges with navigating a pandemic both athletically and academically, this honor is especially noteworthy.”

Due to the effects of COVID-19, the AHCA adopted revised criteria for this year’s honorees. To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.6 GPA for each semester, regardless of whether the school’s hockey team was able to play this season or not.

“The commitment these young women have shown to adapt and thrive in a challenging environment speaks volumes to their character and steadfastness,” said Lun. “I’m very happy to see them all be acknowledged for their work, and very excited to see this energy and enthusiasm on display in the classroom and on the ice in the coming academic year.”
