Preservation Society of Newport County invites Salve Regina to its member appreciation night
The opportunity to discover all that Newport, Rhode Island, has to offer is just one of the many advantages that Salve Regina community members have over other campuses. On Wednesday, Sept. 29, the Preservation Society of Newport County is making it a bit easier for students, faculty and staff to enjoy their surroundings more by inviting those with a valid Salve Regina ID to their member appreciation night festivities on the lawn of The Breakers.
Salve Regina community members can bring their own food and blankets to picnic on the back lawn of The Breakers from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29. There will be food trucks available as well, and sweet treats will be provided by the Preservation Society of Newport County. Live music will be provided by the band My Joe Called Life.
“As neighbors in the Ochre Point Historic District, Salve Regina and the Preservation Society have often looked for ways to collaborate,” said Kristine Hendrickson, associate vice president and chief communications officer. “We are thankful that the Preservation Society is opening its member appreciation night to Salve students, faculty and staff, as it allows our community to become familiar with, and appreciate more fully, the resources available not only near campus, but throughout Newport.”
The Breakers is a Gilded Age mansion built between 1893 and 1895 as a beautiful summer residence for Cornelius Vanderbilt II, a member of the wealthy Vanderbilt family. The home is now a museum where locals and tourists can discover first-hand the history of Newport through tours, and the grounds of The Breakers are where the member appreciation night will happen.
