Simone Cardoso ‘17 to be one of the featured artists at CAB fall concert
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) has never hosted a fall concert before, and they are excited for the opportunity to bring the University’s undergraduate students together in a unique way on Oct. 1, from 4-7 p.m., with doors opening at 3 p.m., on Gerety Hall’s lawn.
“The students at Salve have been missing a social gathering like this for over two years,” said Riley Finn ‘23, a nursing major and the director of music and entertainment for CAB. “Since CAB had to cancel two spring concerts in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic, I felt that a fall concert would be beneficial to Salve—as it could stand as a ‘welcome back to campus life’ event. I wanted to give Salve students something to look forward to during the fall semester.”
Simone Cardoso ’17 comes back to Salve Regina
What better way to celebrate the chance to gather as a student community than to bring back a Salve Regina alumna as the opening act of the concert? Simone Cardoso ‘17, who graduated with a music education major degree, is now a singer and songwriter in Las Angeles, California, and she will be making a special appearance at her alma mater.
Originally from New Bedford, Massachusetts, Cardoso fell in love with Salve Regina during a tour in high school, and she knew it was the place for her. While at Salve Regina, she was part of the National Association for Music Education, she sang in the Pitches with Attitude and University Chorus groups, and she even played percussion in the Newport Community Band.
“Music has always been my passion,” said Cardoso. “The music education major at Salve was definitely the best choice for me. I ended up learning so many instruments, music theory and so much that has helped me in my career now as a singer and songwriter.”
After graduating from Salve Regina, Cardoso started teaching music while also dabbling in writing and performing her own music, all the while based in Boston, Massachusetts. During this time, she had the opportunity to produce an EP called S-95, with songs like “Miss Me” and “Can’t Afford You” jiving with a pop/R&B influence.
With a dream to be a recording artist and full-time performer, Cardoso moved to L.A. in early 2020 to pursue music — right before the pandemic hit. While it has been challenging and an unpredictable surprise, she has remained steadfast in her musical aspirations and vision. Since moving out west, Simone has experienced significant growth in just this year alone, having released a few music singles such as “Make U Mine” and “missed calls.”
As a developing artist, Cardoso hopes to make another EP in the near future to appeal to her growing fanbase. And while her music has taken her many places, she’s excited to be performing back at Salve Regina. She’s even going to bring some current students onstage with her as a nod to the wonderful performers on Salve Regina’s campus.
“It’s going to be such a good time,” she said. “I haven’t performed since 2019, so I’m just all built up with energy and excitement for this show. I really believe that I became a lifelong learner [while at Salve], and I continue to seek out new opportunities to learn and educate myself as I grow.”

CAB concert lineup and details
While Cardoso is the opening act, the other two bands performing on Friday are just as exciting, according to the CAB. The musicians represent a wide span of genres, which CAB hopes will reach students of varying tastes and preferences.
Peach Tree Rascals, an alternative/indie music collective from San Jose, California, will be performing. One of their most popular songs, “Mariposa,” has gone viral on TikTok and has over fifty million views on YouTube. The headliner for the concert is Tierra Umi Wilson—better known as UMI—an R&B and neo-soul artist. One of her most popular singles, “Remember Me,” has been listened to over a hundred million times on Spotify.
“UMI’s sound is very relaxed and chill,” described Finn. “She is very talented and has great vocals. Her style perfectly captures the vision we had for this event. We wanted students to relax, chill out and have a great time with their friends.”
The CAB fall concert is free, and it is only accessible to undergraduate students with a valid Salve ID. Students are encouraged to bring their own seating, such as blankets and chairs, or they can also use the Adirondack chairs and hammocks that are already on Gerety Lawn. CAB will be giving away 100 beach towels as part of their “CAB Swag” for this event, as well as bandanas, key chains, sunglasses and more.
Refreshments will be available from various food trucks for the concert-goers to enjoy, which are free for students, including Haven Brothers food truck and Hawaiian Jim’s shaved ice.
“I am so incredibly proud of Riley and her hard work, along with our cabinet, our advisor and production partner, Pretty Polly Productions, who have all put in the extra effort to make this concert possible,” said Megan Caccamo, president of the Campus Activities Board. “We are truly thankful that we are able to bring such a large event to campus and could not have also done it without the support of the Office of Student Engagement, the Dean of Students Office, the Office of Safety and Security, and Facilities.”
