Cory Tusler named head men’s tennis coach

Cory Tusler has been named the ninth head men’s tennis coach in the history of the school’s program. “I am pleased to welcome coach Tusler to the Seahawk family,” said Colin Sullivan, director of athletics. “Cory has a solid background of collegiate coaching and recruiting experience and I look forward to having him lead our men’s tennis program into the future.”

Tusler served as the head tennis coach at Bentley University for 14 seasons (1991-2005), compiling a 195-89 record. His teams achieved the Northeast-10 (NE-10) regular season championship in 1991, 1993 and 1995, and the NE-10 playoff crown in 1996. Bentley men’s tennis players made two appearances in the NCAA tournament in 1995 and 1996, and Tusler was the voted the NE-10 coach of the year in 1995.

Tusler assisted the men’s tennis program at Boston University in 2005-2006. In the spring of 2007, Tusler launched Wheelock College’s inaugural tennis program, was voted tennis coach of the year for the North Atlantic Conference, and achieved his 200th career win as a head tennis coach.

Prior to Bentley, Tusler served as the assistant women’s tennis coach at Harvard University and Wellesley College. He was an adviser and member of the first coaching staff that directed the launch of the College Tennis Academy in Tampa, Fla.

Tusler’s first job as a tennis director/head tennis professional was at the Sportsmen’s Tennis Club of Dorchester, Mass., where he was in charge of the junior development program. He also coached the USTA New England National 14s and 16s zonal team in the summer of 1999. Many of his players went onto distinguished collegiate careers.

In the private club sector, Tusler has served at the Ferncroft Country Club as tennis professional and was the host professional to World Team Tennis and the Boston Lobsters during the summers of 2008 and 2009.

Tusler is a graduate of Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H., where he played varsity tennis for three years and skied alpine and Nordic for four years, serving as captain during his senior year. He continued his education at Lyndon State College, also attended Van der Meer Tennis University, and went on to become a USPTA certified professional and mentor to many student-athletes.
