Mercy Mondays: Attend Taizé Prayer Services in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel

Throughout the month of November, Salve Regina pauses to remember all those who have gone before us. The month begins with two important celebrations in the Catholic Church: All Saints Day on Nov. 1, and All Souls Day on Nov. 2.

Members of the University community are invited to visit the Our Lady of Mercy Chapel throughout the month of November, where a Book of the Names of the Dead is available to write down the names of lost loved ones. Those names will be prayed over and remembered at every liturgy and service in November.

On Monday, Nov. 15 from 5:30 – 6 p.m., a special Taizé Prayer Service in honor of All Souls will be offered in the chapel. This service will honor and remember our departed loved ones, and luminaries will be glowing throughout the chapel that night. Each luminary represents a beloved family member or friend of our students and community members.

Taizé Prayer Services are ecumenical — which means that they are Christian in nature and celebrated by Christian congregations around the world. No one needs to be Christian to attend, and all are welcome. This service will offer time for quiet reflection and meditation, and in the spirit of the Taizé community, the prayer service will be offered by candlelight. The service is also open to the general public.

Another Taizé Prayer Service will also be offered this semester on Monday, Dec. 6, from 5:30 – 6 p.m. in honor of Advent.
