Mercy Mondays: Join the McKillop Library and the McAuley Institute for a discussion on race
This week, the McKillop Library’s faculty lecture series will be teaming up with the McAuley Institute for Mercy Education. The lecture will be called “Mercy and Racial Justice: Research and Teaching Collaborative,” and it’s on Thursday, March 3, at 4 p.m. Register for this event here.
At this lecture, the McAuley Scholars from the Mercy Critical Concern Faculty Collaborative on Race will share their experiences advancing teaching and research initiatives that address the critical concern of race and contribute to the mercy, Catholic vocation of Salve Regina.
Six McAuley Scholars each receive a grant to support a research or teaching initiative, engage student fellows and convene in regular interdisciplinary seminars to advance this work.
The initiatives that the McAuley Scholars will be discussing and sharing at the Faculty Lecture Series are as follows.
- Dr. Oyenike Balogun-Mwangi: “Cover Girls: A Cross-Cultural Content Analysis of Cover Models in Nigerian and Kenyan Women’s Magazines”
- Lindsay Guarino: “Africanist Aesthetics and Equity in Jazz Dance”
- Dr. Amanda Minor: “Holistic Clinical Mental Health Counseling (HCMHC) Program Curricular Revision”
- Dr. Timothy Neary: “History & American Studies Revising & Revitalizing: Religion and Race in America & American Civil Rights Movement”
- Dr. Tracy Pelkowski: “Examining the Racial Consciousness and Culturally Responsive Areas of Practice in Secondary Pre-Service Teachers”
- Dr. Heather Pizzanello: “Examining the Intersecting Points of Reality at the Cultural Margin/s”
