Hamilton Gallery currently showcasing Honors Senior Thesis Exhibition 2022
The Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery will be running the Honors Senior Thesis Exhibition 2022 through Tuesday, April 12. This exhibition showcases the work of five outstanding seniors from the Department of Art and Art History, and the thesis projects involve graphic design, photography, illustration and mixed media.
The five seniors are listed below, along with some thoughts on their art projects. While the photos show bits and pieces of the art projects, the full displays are only on view in the Hamilton Gallery.
Neneé Angulo ’22: major in interactive media and illustration
“I will be showcasing an animatic about a story I wrote called ‘Our Home,’ and also the process behind an animation such as the character sheets, concept art and storyboards. My work focuses on Salvadoran culture and belonging, so I wanted to create a story that portrayed the importance of keeping one’s heritage alive and that honor those who came before us and their experiences.”
Chloe Brown ’22: studio art major with concentrations in graphic design and photography, marketing minor
“My project is a body of work consisting of six posters and a ton of research. The posters are of both my grandmothers, my parents, my brother, and me and include different words, phrases, and lyrics that either describe them or that I associate with them. Through all my research I looked at the psychology of personality traits against different relationships including color, type, memory, and even music. Every decision I made for the posters was based on the research.”
George Corrigan ’22: studio art major with a concentration in photography and graphic design, minor in marketing
“For my thesis, I am showcasing photography and graphic design. As a sports photographer for the school, I created a magazine inspired by Sports Illustrated, to tell the story of the 2021/22 winter sports season at Salve. In the show, there will be physical copies of the magazine to look through as well as larger prints of my sports photography. The point of thesis was to elevate the work to something that I had never done before, so just taking photos and putting them in the gallery was not an option. A magazine is a common way for photography, specifically sports photography to be shown.”
Meagan Rood ’22: Studio art major with concentrations in graphic design and illustration
“I am showcasing a series of maps I have drawn that are related to a couple of short stories I wrote for some creative writing classes. I’ve loved reading for as long as I can remember, and the best books in my opinion have these detailed maps in the front matter. That’s where this idea originated from, and it just expanded into the idea that storytelling can take many forms, and showing the process of creating a story and a whole world for it to live in.”
Karenna Waring ’22: Studio art major with concentration in graphic design
“The body of work that I created for senior thesis is an ice cream company that I branded/ designed. I used the skills I’ve learned over the years at salve to create a logo, packaging, character design, background posters, and overall branding …. I wanted to not only show my love for package design but challenge myself to create a brand-new company that both adults/kids would love. I hope it puts a smile on everyone’s face just as much as it does for me.”
The Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery is located in the Antone Academic Center on the campus of Salve Regina. It is handicap accessible with parking along Lawrence and Leroy Avenues. Its exhibits are open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from Noon to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed on Mondays.
