Short-term study abroad programs set for Belize, Paris
Students who want to travel during Christmas break are invited to learn more about short-term study abroad opportunities in Belize and Paris.
An information session for “Literary Paris” will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 19 in the O’Hare Academic Center, Room 120, while an information session for “Tropical Belize” will be held at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 in the O’Hare Academic Center, Room 106.
To apply for either program, students must complete the online application and submit all required supplemental materials to the Office of International Programs by Tuesday, Oct. 15. Click here for more information.
“Literary Paris”
Led by Dr. Katherine Lawber, professor of modern and classical languages, “Literary Paris” will run from Jan. 3-13, 2014. Participants will come to know and appreciate some of the greatest works in both French and world literature. Reading and studying these works in a Parisian environment will allow students to visit sites that are closely related to the authors and/or their works, which will provide a dimension to their understanding that is impossible to recreate in a classroom setting.
The program fee is $4,100, which includes three credits of Salve Regina tuition, round-trip airfare from Boston, lodging in a tourist-class hotel, metro/bus pass, museum entrance fees, daily breakfast, two group dinners and more. A $1,200 deposit is due by Friday, Nov. 8, with the final payment due by Friday, Dec. 6.
“Tropical Belize”
Led by Dr. Jameson Chace, “Tropical Belize” will run from Jan. 2-14, 2014. Participants will study firsthand the evolutionary ecology of important plant and animal taxa in tropical ecosystems. The course emphasizes intensive field exploration of tropical ecosystems on land and sea, introducing students to a great diversity of tropical habitats, each possessing distinctive biotas that demonstrate unique evolutionary histories and ecological dynamics.
The program fee is $4,100, which includes three credits of Salve Regina tuition, round-trip airfare from Boston, lodging in dorm-style bungalows and home stays, all meals and official excursion and entrance fees. A $1,200 deposit is due by Friday, Nov. 8, with the final payment due by Friday, Dec. 6.
