Pell Center roundtable will discuss Russia’s recent nuclear rhetoric, threats

The Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy will host another roundtable discussion Friday, Nov. 11, from 11:45 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. in O’Hare Academic Building, Room 121. A free lunch will be provided. Salve Regina staff, faculty and students are invited to participate.

Since before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has rattled the nuclear saber—reminding the West that Russia has nuclear weapons and hinting at their possible use. In recent weeks, the rhetoric has intensified as Russian losses on the battlefield have increased.

In this roundtable, the Salve Regina community will consider what Russian leaders have said and what options the West might have in a period of nuclear brinksmanship not seen since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The discussion will be lead by Dr. Jim Ludes, vice president for strategic initiatives at Salve Regina and the executive director of the Pell Center, and Kathryn Langford, associate director and fellow at the Pell Center.

Roundtable discussions are open to students, faculty and staff at Salve Regina. The Pell Center will provide a free lunch. Space is limited, so please RSVP to pellcenter@salve.edu.
