Attend study abroad information sessions, short-term program deadlines approaching
The Center for Global Education and Fellowships is offering many upcoming short-term study abroad opportunities for spring break 2023, the summer of 2023, or other semesters. Students interested in studying can begin their journey by applying to the different programs.
The deadline to apply for most of these short-term programs is Feb. 1, although the Austria program’s deadline is Nov. 28 and Ireland’s is Dec. 15.
Students interested in short-term programs should visit the Short-Term Study Abroad page to find application instructions and a link to the online application.
Students should also plan to attend a general, drop in information session about study abroad, and these sessions are offered every Monday through Thursday in Drexel Hall at 4 p.m. when classes are in session.
A sample of short-term study abroad programs
While not all short-term study abroad programs are highlighted below, the ones listed are just a sample of the opportunities. They are programs that take place in Oxford and Londan, England; Verona, Italy; and the Dominican Republic.
The program in the Dominican Republic is eight weeks long June through July, and it offers an immersive experience in the Spanish language comprised of six credits of courses on the history and culture of the Hispanic Caribbean, as well as community engagement. Students will engage in service learning in a range of settings and will reside in a homestay — all designed to deepen students’ language ability and understanding of the region and its peoples.
The Oxford and London program runs from May 31 to June 27. Participants will earn six credits by choosing two courses from a variety of offerings taught by faculty from Salve Regina, St. Clare’s College and Oxford University. The program emphasizes experiential learning, with almost daily trips to Oxford sites that feature in the readings. Ranging beyond Oxford, students will visit other key sites in London and Bath. Additionally, students enrolled in the European Financial Markets course will take part in a simulation of the London Stock Exchange and manage a virtual portfolio of international stocks.
The Verona program runs May 20 through June 27 and offers students the chance to take 4-6 credits from a range of business, language and culture course offerings — including a course on Italian cuisine — while residing in the historic city of Verona in student apartments. Students will experience the culture of Verona, Italy, by learning about its history spanning from the ancient Romans to Shakespeare to its modern artistic and cultural vibrancy. Field trips include Venice and Bologna.
