Mercy Mondays: Announcing launch of Mercy Interdisciplinary Faculty Collaborative on women and gender

One of the first initiatives launched by the McAuley Institute for Mercy Education was the development of the Mercy Interdisciplinary Faculty Collaboratives. These collaboratives bring together faculty from across academic departments to mutually advance teaching, research and University initiatives related to the critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy.

In the spring of 2020, two faculty collaboratives convened: one focused on the critical concern of earth and one focused on the critical concern of race. Each collaborative was comprised of six faculty members, named McAuley Scholars, who receive a small grant to underwrite their work and are encouraged to dedicate a portion of their grant funds to engage one or more student research assistant(s) in their project.

This past spring the McAuley Institute for Mercy Education and the McKillop Library partnered this past spring through the library’s faculty lecture series to hear from the collaborative on race in March and the collaborative on earth in April.

This fall, the institute has launched its next collaborative, which will focus on the critical concern of women and gender. Seven McAuley Scholars have begun work on their McAuley Initiatives, integrating student research assistants into their work.

The McAuley Institute for Mercy Education will host a public lecture on the critical concern of women and gender in the spring of 2023 and will offer a campus roundtable with the McAuley Scholars in the spring of 2024 as the collaborative concludes.
