Book launch for “Muse and Mercy” celebrates Salve Regina’s 75th anniversary, art history legacy
As part of its ongoing celebrations for Salve Regina’s 75th anniversary during the 2022-23 academic year, the University is hosting an official book launch party for “Muse and Mercy: Exploring Fine and Decorative Arts at Salve Regina University” on Wednesday, April 19, from 5-6 p.m.
This event is open to the general public, as well as the Salve Regina community. No registration is required in advance.
“Muse and Mercy” is a years-long publishing project with collaborations among varying departments and students across campus. The book is a first-ever catalogue documenting 75 important art pieces that make Salve Regina’s campus a treasure trove of historical artwork.
Its publication is part of the 75th celebrations. More information on the process behind “Muse and Mercy” will be available in the 75th anniversary edition of “Report from Newport,” coming out soon.
“We are delighted that the book launch is taking place in Ochre Court, which features so prominently in ‘Muse and Mercy,'” said Dr. Anthony Mangieri and Ernest Jolicoeur, professors in the Department of Art and Art History and the leaders on this project. “The publication of this book transforms our understanding of art on our campus and makes a significant contribution to the history of Gilded Age art.”
The event on April 19 will be an informal gathering and a chance to get together to celebrate its publication, according to Dr. Mangieri. There will be about five minutes of remarks at the beginning of the event, and there will be no food or drink.
Authors and contributors will be able to pick up two free copies of “Muse and Mercy” at this event. Additional copies will also be available for sale at the event for $60 each by cash only. “Muse and Mercy” can also be purchased online at the Commemorative Gifts website.
