Stanton named BSN defensive player of the week
Hayden Stanton ’16 was named a Beyond Sports Network Division III defensive player of the week after helping the Seahawks to a 43-10 win over Curry College last Saturday. He was one of just six players chosen, including three linebackers, a defensive back and two defensive tackles.
Stanton was also named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) defensive player of the week.
Stanton had five tackles for loss and two sacks among his career-best eight tackles as Salve Regina held the Curry ground game to just 35 yards. He had six solo stops and his tackles for losses totaled 34 yards (16 on the two sacks).
Joining Stanton on the NEFC honor roll was Brad Kelly ’16. He returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and had an 11-yard tackle for loss on the Colonels first punt that led to a Seahawk touchdown drive.
Salve Regina returns to the field when the Seahawks take on Central Connecticut State University at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.
